See that motel sign? It's somewhere between the stars and the moon, the earth and the sun, between the coyote on the mesa and whatever. It sits just over the front gate to Videoranch, ancestral and artistic home of Michael Nesmith , or Nez as we call him. You're here now. Relax. You made it. Throw your saddlebags over the back of your Ranch Cycle and cruise around. Look at the cultural artifacts and doodads of this reality.
Listen. Watch. Read. If you like it, buy it, we'll send it to you. Stay as long as you like. These are the dreams that stuff are made of.
This is the definitive collection of the works of the Nez, from Joanne to Rio, from Repo Man to Elephant Parts, from Magnetic South to Tropical Campfires, as well as collectibles and things you will not be able to find anywhere else.
Feeling low? Feeling blue? Here's a Tale of Inspiration just to show you the possibilites. Where else but Videoranch? It's a giguando file, 4.7 or something, but it's worth it. Make it into a keychain. Have it tattooed on your back. Leave it in the yard as a lawn sticker. Lawn sticker? Like a bumper sticker except it's a sign you put it in your front yard. It says things like "My other House is a Mansion".
OK. This is what one of the Ranch hands found, won't tell ya' where. 'Member "Rio"? No? Well, some of you do. The video for that song is in the Museum of Modern Art collection because it was one of the first. Now, Nez don't like this whole "he invented music videos" thing but if it's not entirely true, it mostly is. And "Rio"was the song that started it. He went on from there to start up MTV and bunch of other stuff that was a direct result of that little film.
We found a box of the original '45's of "Rio", the single record the video was made to promote, in the most gorgeous black and white photograph sleeves. The photograph is from the "Rio" shoot. The whole thing is in almost perfect condition. The records themselves are pristine. The sleeve has a little curl on one corner from being stacked funny for twenty years. We put up a picture of it for you to see. We found twenty five. That's it. Twenty five. Nez will let us sell twenty. He's keepin' the rest for his own archives.Take a look. You can reserve one with email to the foreman. When they go on sale they'll be a hundred US dollars each. $100.00US. Nez will sign each one. He's very proud of them.
I s'pose if there is one artifact that signals the beginning of the music video, this is it. And they are beauties.
Over in the Connection Corral there are some new links to a few Nez activities. Take a look especially at the Gihon Foundation. One of Nez's favorite, and he thinks, most important activities.
Go read "The Long Sandy Hair of Neftoon Zamora". Only seven chapters up here but you'll get the idea.
Gemstones change all the time. Who made up the name Gemstones? I hate that name. Get somebody in here to change it. Don't look like Gemstones anyway. Look more like them crystal thingys hippies use'ta hang from their Westfalias. Or that stick-on gizmo for watch-out-you-moron-there's-a glass-door-here. I seen one of them on a shower door once in somebody's house. Now why would you put a sticky flower on your own shower door? But ... I'm rambling. Gemstones change. Don't take nothin' for granted.
We sure have seen a lot of people come through and enjoy seein' all of you. Thanks for your support. Tell your friends. Link us up.
